Many modern day designers and engineers are actually turning their attention to the ancient art of feng shui, which encourages the proper placement of buildings, furniture, and accessories in order to encourage the most positive energy possible in ones life. But why would those living now, in our age of science and reason, be interested in something thats as old as feng shui?
More of an art than a science, there are few if any rules written in stone to the practice of feng shui. There is plenty of room for the practitioner to work as they see fit. This gives you a lot of flexibility to use the principles of feng shui in a way that works best for you.
Feng Shui can also be equated to science as well since there are a lot of scientific principles in this discipline. For instance, Feng Shui advises that the rooms in the interior of the house should be kept free of clutter so as to avoid blocking the natural energy flow. Most modern day interior decorates advocate keeping the house clutter free and neat since clutter can cause negativity, depression and frustration and hamper ingenuity.
There is a lot of emphasis on the use of color in feng shui, with the idea being to place vibrant colors in places where one can use their energy the most (for instance, wherever you drink your coffee in the morning!), with more muted, warmer colors in the places you go to relax such as a bedroom or the den. These colors will make you feel relaxed, comforted and secure.
Researchers are now convinced that color can really affect the moods of a person. Brilliant and bold colors can cause feelings of enthusiasm and happiness while dark dull colors can plummet you to the depth of depression. Feng Shui does not boast of extensive research; however it is still quite amazing how it has still promoted these ideas even centuries before scientists realized them.
A lot of people today are looking to have more energy to help them through their hectic, over-scheduled days. This has led many to feng shui as a natural remedy for stress and lack of energy which modern lifestyles can leave one feeling drained of. It's a natural perk up and one which has worked for many.
Using feng shui can't cause any harm, so it is worth the time to try it out. The worst that can happen is that you'll tidy up and maybe repaint a room or two - and it could bring you energy you didn't even know you had!
So it seems that feng shui is here to stay, as they say. This ancient art and science has found its way into our modern lives in a major way. Whether its the use of color or of how to encourage the best traffic flow in ones house, many modern adherents are welcoming this ancient teaching into their lives on a daily basis.
