For many years Bulgaria was a country renowned for a place where students were able to go on holiday on the cheap. But today this beautiful country is able to provide much more than cheap wine and is ideal for those who are looking for something a little different from their next holiday.

Many people choose to visit Bulgaria for one reason and one reason only and that is to spend time on its unspoilt beautiful beaches. Yet if you are feeling like you need a little bit more to do then why not consider spending time exploring the surrounding countryside either on horseback or hiking along one of the many well maintained trails.

When it comes to the weather in Bulgaria compared to other parts of Europe it is extremely temperate. Generally through the summer months it remains hot and dry, where as the winter ones are damp and cold. Ideally for those who want the best weather (not too hot or too cold) then visiting this country between April and mid June is highly recommended.

If you are after the sun and spending time on Bulgaria's beaches then going on holiday there during the middle of June and September should be considered. But remember this is the height of their summer tourist season so if you have not booked your accommodation well in advance getting what you want may prove difficult. This is especially the case for those who intend to spend their holiday at one of Bulgaria's Black Sea Coast resorts

If you would prefer to see another side of what Bulgaria has to offer then why not consider booking some holiday time to the country in September. This is when autumn is starting to come in and the colors of the countryside begin to change and you can eat as much fresh fruit and vegetables as you want. Plus you will find that getting the accommodation you want much easier and will be a lot cheaper.

For those who want like to try their luck at skiing then the resorts in Bulgaria are gaining in popularity with skiers from around Europe. Again if you want to go skiing during the height of the season it is best to book sooner rather than later. The main ski season runs from the middle of December and can last well in to April in Bulgaria.

When it comes to getting to Bulgaria nothing could be simpler. Nearly every major airport in Europe is offering direct flights to the airport in Sofia, including its own airline Bulgaria Air. This is the national airline which took over from Balkan Airlines in 2002. But along with Bulgaria's own airline many budget airlines in Europe now offer flights to it also.

For those who would like to visit Bulgaria by car then be aware that a road tax is charged with regard to cars coming into and then leaving the country. Therefore ensure that before you arrive you have sufficient small currency in order to pay these charges.
