Buying a car is one of the first major purchases any of us ever make. Most of us have fond memories of our "first car." I even know a guy who uses the make and model of the car he owned as a way of creating a mental time line of his life; that's how important it is to him. So why is it that so many consumers end up feeling uncomfortable at the dealership? At San Tan Honda Superstore of Chandler we want to sell cars. But we don't only want to sell cars. We want to sell cars and have our new drivers heading home happy with their purchase and confident that they got a good deal.
If you're not careful you'll discover first hand that not all dealerships have the same philosophy. A lot of car dealerships don't really care about the "eventual" satisfaction of the customer as long as they get the papers signed and the prospective customer back on the road in a vehicle; any vehicle. So before you wander into just any car lot...think about a few things that might make your car purchase a little more pleasant.
Here's the top five things we at San Tan Honda Superstore of Chandler believe consumers should insist upon:
1. Nice salesmen. And not just because it's enjoyable, but because the stereotypical car salesman are actually sometimes the ones you end up with on the car lot and you won't enjoy it! A good dealership will train their sales associates to give customers a little bit of space. They might even leave you to wander into the showroom on your own and browse through the inventory a little bit before they greet you and offer to help you. This method is much more enjoyable than the tried and true drag the car buyers from their vehicles before they've even come to a full stop!
2. Make sure they have an Internet division. You're online researching right now so already know the importance and the power of knowledge prior to a purchase. Many car dealerships have full Internet departments to cater to today's online market. Take advantage of it! Access the Internet specials and expect the Internet specials to be honored at your chosen dealership!
3. A good dealership will provide salesmen with the necessary training so that they don't have to resort to "bossing" their clients. Don't put up with a salesman who continuously makes pointless demands from you. They're on the job. They are there to help you. If your salesman walks away from you in the showroom with a bossy "wait here"...feel free to walk away from the showroom. A salesman who is continuously bossing you is attempting to set a pattern of obedience that will probably lead to an eventual purchase that you realize later you were pressured to make.
4. Look for a dealership whose salesmen are very knowledgeable, but not ridiculously opinionated. This is your new car; not the salesman's. So it doesn't really matter how many times he's been tempted to buy the loaded, high end model in the showroom. If you feel like looking at it; go ahead. But don't feel obligated to accommodate the suggestions of a salesman who continuously suggests vehicles that are not what you came in to buy.
5. And last but not least, honesty! Look for a dealership that is honest in their dealings. This means they should never lose the keys to your trade in during the negotiations. This also means that you should know precisely what your interest rate and payments are listed as in the financing paperwork. This means that advertised prices are actually available. You get the picture!
Start your next ownership experience off on the right foot by making sure that the dealership you deal with is top notch. You'll regret it very quickly if you don't pay attention. Make the most of your money...don't just be happy with the end result. Be happy with the entire process from the moment you walk onto the lot to the moment you drive off of it!
