While it is not really possible to start a home based business for free, it is possible to find great ideas for a home based business without having to pay for the information.

If you'd like to work at home, but are unsure what you'd like to do, you should begin by assessing your skills. Do you have basic computer skills? Are you a writer? Can you build or design websites? Can you make crafts to sell? Do you have an excellent phone personality? Any of these skills can be marketed for the work at home job market.

Go to google and type in "wahm forum" or "work at home forum" or for something more specific narrow it down by searching for terms such as "freelance writing forum". Once you visit these forums you can register and get to know others who are working at home, post questions, etc.

Many people say that if you have to pay to work at home then it has to be a scam. This is not necessarily true. Depending on what you choose there are always going to be some sort of start up costs such as a computer, internet access, advertising costs, suppplies, business cards, etc. However, with careful planning and research you can keep your costs down. Try to stick with a budget and as you start making a profit you can invest more money into your business.

Working at home is not for everyone but if you are willing to work hard and stick with it you can succeed. Take things slowly and don't expect to make a huge income overnight. Avoid anything that sounds too good to be true and take your time to find something that really holds your interest. Before you know it you will be looking back and be proud of all that you have accomplished.
